
In a landmark move towards sustainable energy, bp and Iberdrola España have officially begun construction on a cutting-edge 25MW green hydrogen plant in Castellón, Spain. This ambitious project, backed by an investment of over €70 million (approximately $72.2 million), is a joint venture named Castellón Green Hydrogen, reflecting a significant commitment to the future of clean energy.
The Castellón Green Hydrogen plant is set to become Spain's largest facility of its kind, with an annual production capacity of 2,800 tonnes of green hydrogen. This initiative is crucial for several reasons. By replacing grey hydrogen currently used at the bp refinery, the plant will significantly reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 23,000 tonnes per year, contributing to Spain's climate goals.
